In 1836, when Frederick was only 4 years old, he came to America from Germany with his father, stepmother and 6-month-old half sister, Frederica. Sadly, Frederica died during the 11-week journey; she is buried at sea in Indonesia. Frederick's biological mother, Auguste Röstel, died soon after Frederick's birth.

After arriving in New York, they traveled to & settled in a German encampment in Greene Co, OH, for ten years. They moved to Poland, Clay Co, IN; then settled at Nine Mile Twp, Greene Co, IN.

Frederick served in the Civil War; Co. B, 149th Indiana Volunteer Infantry (IVI), rank of Private. He enlisted in Feb 1865; worked as a carpenter at Fort Decatur in Alabama to ready the barracks for POWs.

On Apr 5, 1851, Frederick married Lucinda Ellis in Bowling Green, Clay Co, IN. They lived mainly in Greene Co, IN where the rest of his family lived until he moved his family to Bald Knob, White, AR, abt. 1875. The railroads offered land grants to entice people to move to Arkansas. Frederick was a recipient of one of the land grants.

Frederick died on Aug 15, 1879. He's buried in Fredonia Historic Cemetery, Bald Knob, White, AR. His grave is in the Historic Section next to the fenced area where his son, William Nelson Bohley, and two of William Nelson's sons, Henry D & Jesse O Bohley, are buried.
