Jesse Vernon Barr was born near the city of Waynesville, Ill., June 14, 1886, and died May 13, 1918, at Fort Riley, Kan. He was the third child of Albert and Emma Barr. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Ernest M., of Carroll, Iowa; Ray H., who is now serving in France in Co. B, 137th Inf., and two sisters, Mabel and Gladys of Holton. At the beginning of the war Jesse tried to enlist in the navy and artillery, but was rejected on account of his physical condition. Later he was accepted by the infantry and had been in camp only two weeks at the time of his death. His mother was permitted to be with him during his sickness …. Sergeant McFarran accompanied the body to Holton and remained here till after the funeral.
