Fern Allen

LAWRENCE -- Fern M. Allen, 91, Lawrence, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at a Lawrence retirement community.

She was born April 19, 1911, in Horton, to David W. and Anna C. Lehn O'Dell.

Mrs. Allen was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.

She married David A. Allen on July 9, 1932, in Horton. He died on June 16, 1986. Mrs. Allen also was preceded in death by a daughter and a grandson.

Survivors include three sons, David E. Allen and Richard L. Allen, both of Topeka, and Jerry J. Allen, Stover, Mo.; five daughters, Vera J. Harrington, Emporia, Pat K. Wells, Lawrence, Joyce M. Davis, Billings, Mont., Mary Jo Huffstickler, Norfolk, Va., and Vickie S. Nichols, Lawrence; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery in North Topeka.

A parish rosary recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary will be followed by visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of America Hospice and sent in care of the mortuary.
