Funeral services for James David Savell, 83, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Strother officiating and Fr. Karl Daigle, the Rev. Danny Warbington and the Rev. Bill Ichter assisting. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today.
Mr. Savell passed away Saturday, February 26 in Minden. He was a resident of Minden and native to Raleigh, Miss. He was retired from the City of Minden.
Mr. Savell served in World War II in the Marshall Islands in the Marines for four years. He was in the army for 16 years where he also served in the Korean War. He was a loving husband, a very special father and grandfather and a faithful Christian who dearly loved the Lord. He was a member of North Acres Baptist Church for 40 years. He was an avid sportsman and is widely known in this area for his home grown fresh tomatoes.
He is preceded in death by daughters, Ruby Kathleen Savell and Sandy Lee Savell; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Savell; sister, Agnes Tatum; and brothers, Alexander John Savell and Franklin Savell.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Josephine Savell of Minden; son, Alan James Savell and wife Patricia of Minden; daughters, Anita and husband Rex Frye of Minden, Shirley and husband Mike Shuler of Minden, Judy and husband Wayne Jackson, Jenny and husband J.D. Greene of Minden and Loli and husband Jerry Johns of Minden; sisters, Frances S. Pope and husband Richard of Oak Grove, Emma Jean S. Reynolds of Monroe and Betty S. Johnson and husband Clifton of Shreveport; brother, Preston Savell of Shreveport; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Dale Thornton, Richard Thornton, Roger White, Ed Shuler, Brian Jackson and Chris Cheatham.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dustin Tucker and Daniel Shuler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Acres Baptist Church Building Fund.
