Charles Herman "Hermie" Foster, 72, died Saturday at Washburn Manor after a lingering illness. He was born in Ager, California and moved with his parents, the late John and Phyllis Foster, to this city in 1912.

He worked for Southern Pacific Railway for 42 years before retiring in 1960. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Elks Lodge, 40 & 8, and Brotherhood of Railway Clerks.

On June 8, 1921, in Eugene, he was married to the former Mabel Murphy, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Circuit Court Judge Charles H. Foster, Lakeview; daughter, Mrs. Frances Howard, Sacramento, CA; brother Bob Foster Shasta, CA; also five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
