HAZEL MANWARING HILBIG

Hazel Manwaring Hilbig, age 76, died peacefully, April 11, 1990 at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah after a courageous two year battle with cancer.

Born March 25, 1914 in Vernal, Utah a daughter of David Elmer and Leona Goodrich Manwaring. Married Frederick Walter Hilbig, June 10, 1946, Salt Lake LDS Temple. Graduated from Utah State University in 1945 with a bachelor's degree in Education and a minor in Art, Music & Literature. Did post-graduate work at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. Teacher in Utah elementary schools for thirty-nine years - three years in Roosevelt; two years in Moab; three years in Kamas; three years in Logan; two years in Taylorsville; nine years at Sherman School, Granite District; and seventeen years at Morningside School, Granite District. Compiler and editor (with husband) of the George Albert Goodrich Family History (1st edition 1974; 2nd edition 1976).

They also did genealogical research for the David Manwaring Family Organization from 1981 to 1988. Active member of the LDS Church. Her main area of service was that of teacher in the auxiliary organizations. Also served as Young Women counselor, music director, Sunday School secretary, Young Women speech director, member of stake Primary board, stake Sunday School Board, Sunday School in-service leader, Relief Society spiritual-living teacher, and ward librarian.

Survived by husband of Salt Lake City; a son, David M. Hilbig, Sandy, Utah; five grandchildren; brother, Perry E. Manwaring, Claremont, California; three sisters, Mrs. Elvyn I. (Venice) Bascom, Roosevelt, Utah; Mrs. Grant G. (Hope) Williams; and Mrs. Howard Deloy (June) Andreasen, both of Spanish Fork, Utah. Preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mrs. Lorin R. (Genevieve) Mangum.

Funeral services on Monday, April 16th, at 12 noon, Olympus 4th Ward, 2700 East 4500 South. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, on Sunday evening 6-8 pm, and at the Ward on Monday, the hour prior to services. Interment, Larkin Sunset Garden, Sandy.
