Helen L. (Herman) Zortman, 82, entered into rest March 21, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Daniel E. Zortman, who preceded her in death on March 31, 2002.

Helen was born August 28, 1926, in Spring Grove, one of four children of the late Maurice J. and Anna M. (Zinn) Herman.

She retired as a supervisor from Danskin of York following 28 years of loyal employment. She then continued to work at Kennie's Market in Spring Grove for several years. Helen was a very active and faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she served as a member of the Mission Committee, the Quilters Group, and Altar Guild. She was a dedicated visitor of area shutins and gave many volunteer hours preparing meals for the York Rescue Mission. She enjoyed hosting family and friends at Laurel Lake, their cabin in Pine Grove Furnace, where she prepared many delicious meals and created many loving memories. Helen graduated with the Spring Grove High School Class of 1944 and volunteered with the Spring Grove Alumni Committee.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Donna E. Singer of York and Susan L. Ness of Seven Valleys; four grandchildren, Scott A. Stare, Robert D. Stare, Tammy S. Myers, and Travis J. Ness; and three great-grandchildren, Randy Stare, Benjamin Stare, and Emma-Jean Axe. Helen is also survived by two brothers, Robert D. Herman and Donald E. Herman, both of Spring Grove. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey W. Zortman in 1959; and a brother, William J. Herman in 1978.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Mt. Rose Cemetery, York.
