Jessie Lee was the first-born child and son of William W. and Mary Frances Turner Wilson Harper. I grew up assuming this child was a female, however the newspaper articles and other family members confirmed Jessie was a male/son.

Historical information - At one time, Find A Grave Memorial# 35481037 existed. At some point someone submitted a merge suggestion. Find A Grave Memorial# 35481037 was under the name "Infant Harper" as per the obituary which stimulated the creation of that memorial. LFC, 24 Jan 2013. The obituary for the Infant Harper comes from the Ard Journals which are kept at the Washington Memorial Library in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia and included this typed transcription of the obituary. Based on family history, research and the obituary, it is my strong belief that this obituary was for Jessie Lee Harper (May 12, 1901-Feb 13, 1902; dates from her mother's Bible records), a son of William W. & Mary F. (Wilson) Harper. He is the GRANDson of widower E. D. Harper who lived next door. The referred-to second child in the obituary was not his sibling; William David "David" Thomas was his cousin (June 1898-Feb 9, 1902) (# 38207783 and # 40579351). They died 4 days apart, not 10. David, his widowed mother Margaret (Harper) Thomas) and David's two siblings lived with their grandfather E. D. Harper, next door to Jessie's family. It is easy to see why cousins Jessie and David probably contracted the same disease as next door neighbors.

In the bigger picture, three related young children die with 4 days of each other. So far I have seen the 1900 U.S. census show that first cousins Willie David Thomas and Jessie Lee Harper appear to be next door neighbors. Research needs to be done to see where Samuel Wilson lived relative to Willie and Jessie in 1900.
1) Willie/David Thomas aka David Thomas (name on gravestone) aka Willie Thomas, grandson of Mr. E. E. (sic - E. D.) Harper (Macon News) - born Jun 1898; died 09 Feb 1902; son of John Thomas (unknown birth date; believed to have died before 1899) and Margaret "Maggie" Harper Thomas Wilson (1871-1938). Grandson of Elijah David Harper (1849-1928) and Frances Catherine "Fannie" Bryant Harper (1851-1899). Willie/David has two Findagrave.com memorials due to what appears to be poorly researched and written obituaries for the Macon Telegraph and the Macon News.
2) Jessie Lee Harper aka "little baby boy of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. (sic - W. W.) Harper (Macon News) - born 12 May 1901; died 13 Feb 1902; son of William Washington Harper (1879-1940) and Mary Frances Turner Wilson Harper (1881-1960). Grandson of Elijah David Harper (1849-1928) and Frances Catherine "Fannie" Bryant Harper (1851-1899); AND David W. Wilson (~1841-1901) and Mary Frances "Fannie"* Rigsby Turner (1853-1891). Jessie has two Findagrave.com memorials due to what appears to be poorly researched and written obituaries for the Macon Telegraph and the Macon News.
3) Samuel Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. T. (sic - Samuel Theodore) Wilson (Macon News) aka Samuel T. Wilson (Macon News) - born 25 Sep 1897; died 13 Feb 1902; son of Samuel Theodore Wilson (1862-1918) and Susan Frances "Susan/Fannie" Brack Wilson (1869-1956). Grandson of David W. Wilson (~1841-1901) and Mary Frances "Fannie"* Rigsby Turner (1853-1891).

When there were two memorials for Jessie Lee Harper, I did not connect them nor did I merge them as I could not be 100% sure this is indeed Jessie Lee Harper based on the obituary which I believe was poorly researched and written, lack of access at this current time to the original, and, mostly, due to the fact that this obituary has been widely circulated for over 100 years. I had therefore kept the other memorial intact for a record of what was known for the last 100-plus years from the transcribed obituary. Let it be known that I am grateful to the Ards for all the work they did in their transcriptions-their work helped me find my ancestors in the 1980s! To further complicate matters is the existence of a typed listing of the individuals buried in Cedar Ridge Cemetery. The Harper's are listed on page 22 and at this time I have not seen the other pages; I hypothesize that the typed list is the work of the Ards. The complication revolves around two listings: (1) an "Infant Harper" dying on 13 Feb 1902 without burial plot information (this is the death date for cousins Jessie Lee Harper and Samuel T. Wilson); and (2) Jessie L. Harper born 1902, died 29 Nov 1902, buried in plot 2F10. Jessie is buried in 2F10 BUT he is born in 1901 and dies on 13 Feb 1902. In my 40 plus years of research, I have not found any other child who died on 29 Nov 1902 in Macon, Georgia. LFC, 27 Nov 2023.
