VAMMEN-- Hazel Lee, 72 year old resident of Oaks, OK, died Monday, July 5 in Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital. Born October 1, 1926 in Lawton, OK, she was the daughter of William J. Becker and Rozella Harder Becker. Mrs. Vammen had been a resident of Oaks since 1994 and was a former longtime resident of Tulsa. Mrs. Vammen graduated from Lawton High School in 1943 and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1947 with a B.A. in Journalism. While attending the University of Oklahoma, she was student editor of Oklahoma Daily. A retired journalist, teacher and actress, she had been a news reporter for the Lawton Constitution. She taught English, Journalism and Drama at Lawton Public Schools and Cameron College. She had played the role of Mary Magdalene in the 1948 movie production of The Prince of Peace. Mrs. Vammen had been a former president of the Tulsa Medical Auxiliary. She had been an active participant in Tulsa and Oklahoma politics. A member of the Lutheran Church, she had been active in First Lutheran Church in Tulsa and Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Oaks. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Adolph N. Vammen of the home; 3 daughters, Vahla Lee Todd of Oklahoma City, OK, Susan Rozemarie Stitt of Houston, TX and Elizabeth Ann Vammen of Austin, TX; 2 grandchildren, Phillip Todd of Houston, TX and Kristina Todd of Oklahoma City, OK; and 1 brother, Charles Becker of Lovington, NM. Funeral service will be Friday, July 9 at 2 p.m. in Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Oaks, OK with Pastor Don Marshall and Pastor Ruth Votaw officiating. Burial will be in Oaks Cemetery with funeral service under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home.
