DEATH TAKES IRA WARREN
Ira Warren, sergeant of the Oregon State Police, died at 11:14 p.m. last night in the Oregon City Hospital, where he was taken four days ago after being stricken with spinal meningitis.

Although physicians used the latest methods of treatment in an effort to check the dread malady, which is nearly always fatal, Warren failed to respond to treatment. He had been unconcious for several days and use of a new serum failed to halt the disease.

Warren, who was once chief of police in Oregon City, was shot through the cheek by Earl Spears, noted "sock bandit" while capturing Sears and a companian in a Portland hotel last December. He was only recently released from the hospital after apparently recovering from the effects of the gunshot wound. The body was taken to Holman and Hankins.
