WORLD WAR I VETERAN

William John Hewitt was born on 22 June 1887, at Haliburton, Canada. He is the son of Benjamin and Mary (Carter) Hewitt. Benjamin was born in Ireland and his wife Mary was born in England.

On 24 June 1918 at Vancouver, Washington William enlisted in the United States Army. He was assigned with the 409 Signal Corps, and was discharged on 15 December 1918 as a Private.

On 20 November 1937, at Seattle, Washington William married Annabelle Barstow. This union lasted until the death of Annabelle on 11 February 1943.

He later married again on 3 September 1953 to Nellie May Henderson, at Spanaway, Washington. This marriage ended with the death of William.

On 1 April 1967, William passed away at the Washington Veterans Home Hospital. He is buried in the Home's cemetery at Retsil, Washington.
