John was not a Quaker and was considered to be a "Worldling" by the Friends of Chalfont, New Britain, Colony of Pennsylvania; hence, he and Sarah married "Out of Unity with Friends" - the first offense of this kind.

My thanks to Janet de la Pena for the following information:
"The D.A.R. lists his death as Feb. 26, 1798, in Rowan Co., NC. He was buried in the Joppa Cemetery."
My thanks also to David for posting a photo of a Joppa Cemetery memorial that confirms the location of John Willcockson's grave.
∼John Wilcockson was born in about 1720, in Pennsylvania. His parents were probably George Wilcockson [an English immigrant] and Elizabeth (Powell) Wilcockson. In 1742, he married Sarah Boone (1724-ca1815), a daughter of Squire and Sarah (Morgan) Boone. In 1750, John and Sarah moved from PA and eventually settled in Rowan Co., NC. The last known record of John Willcockson was a deed of land from John to his son, William Willcockson, in Rowan County dated February 26, 1798. John Willcockson probably died shortly after this date. He was probably buried in Joppa Cemetery near Mocksville, Rowan Co. (present Davie Co.), NC, where other members of the Willcockson and Boone families were also buried.
The following description of John Willcockson was contributed by his great-grandchildren in the "Portrait and Biographical Album of Fulton Co., IL, 1890":
"John Willcockson was born in Wales and upon coming to America, settled in North Carolina, where he was occupied as a farmer and mechanic. He is reputed to have been the possessor of marked genius, and was endowed with strong faculties and a generous heart."
