Part of an 800 acre pate nt to Ashby. Consideration: $200. Signed: William Ashby, Sarah Ashby. Witn esses: John Fairfax, Frederick Harsh, Jacob Ridenour. Acknowledged by Sar ah Ashby before John Fairfax and Frederick Harsh, JPs, 11 June 1804. Prov ed by witnesses, June 1804. Del: to Wilt, 17 May 1805. Recorded: OC 3:154- 155. William Wilton Ashby b. 1744 Frederick, MD d. 1804 Garrett, MD & Sarah Wil liams m. 1764 Frederick, MD. - Property sold to Michael Wilt at, or just p rior to, the death of William Ashby. William Ashby was one of the first la nd owners in what is now Garrett County, MD. He received his landas a gra tuity for service in the Revolutionary War. b. recorded as residents of Preston County in 1810, 1820 & 1830 census rep orts. c. recorded birth of Johannes, son of Michael, 1792 at Aurora. 2. John H. Wotring married Catherine Harsh, the widow of Jacob Wilt (Micha el`s son) see: 1860 Preston Co census house # 1018-1019 note `WILT` children of Jo hn H. & Catherine Wotring. above reference > Mary Wilt m. John McKemie (age 27) - Mich. `Morton`s, 19 14 History of Preston County` states on page 405: Michael Wilt came from Pennsylvania about 1835 and settled on the Jacob Wo tring farm, a mile west of Aurora.
