Mavis "Marie" Lipsey, Gorman was born to Guy David Lipsey & Deress Ida Cook. To this union four children were born, that I am aware of. Lema "Earle" Lipsey, Lois Elaine "Midge" Lipsey Wilson, Dorothy Eloise Lipsey and Mavis "Marie" Lipsey Gorman.

Marie married Curtis B. Gorman in December 1941. We haven't been able to locate a marriage certificate and are thinking the war took precedence over many things at that time. To this union were two Children born and sadly 1 miscarriage. Donald Curtis Gorman & Richard Earl Gorman.

Marie had a hard childhood and was very close to her sister Dorothy Eloise. They shared everything and confided in each other. They were not only Sisters but Best Friends! Then sadly Dorothy Eloise died from Pneumonia at the age of twelve. This crushed Marie and a few years later she left the family home to make her mark on the world, and support herself.

One of Marie's first jobs she had after moving away from her family home was at a local bar on LaSalle Ave, Waco, Texas in the 1930's. She worked there many years. That was back in the day where bars were "Family Friendly" and safe where everyone knew the person walking through the door!

Marie didn't like her given name Mavis, and went by her middle name Marie. She was a Seamstress and worked in a sewing factory called FabKnit in Waco that produced Sports Clothing etc. Her Sister-in-law Hazel Lipsey worked there also and Marie sent me down there years later to go to work. We all shared fond memories of things not changing much, over the years gone by. She worked at Wood's and also Wolf's Sewing/Clothing Factory as well.

In later years, Marie and her brother Lema Earle became very close. Lema wed Hazel Locklar and Marie quickly became "Best Buds" with Hazel!

Lois Elaine "Midge" her other sister became very close in later years, as the miles separated them along with marriage and busy lives. Marie didn't drive when I came into the family in 1980. When she started driving in her early years, stories are told with much laughter that she never could get into 3rd & 4th gears. So she drove in 1st gear and REVERSE on many a trip around the neighborhood or to the Neighborhood Convenience Store! When Curtis told us those stories, we would laugh till our insides hurt and tears were streaming down our cheeks! Ahhhh sweet memories.

Marie loved to work out in her yard, whether it be raking the dirt, planting flowers and shrubs, pulling weeds one by one or placing decorations of some sort out in the yard, and watch Curtis get riled up because it was another object to mow around!

Curtis & Marie would spend hours outside in the swing or in the circle of chairs area, where many meals were eaten. We basked in the sun many a day, just shooting the breeze, sorta speak, crocheting or watching the kids in the #9 washtub with Curtis spraying the kid's with the hose. We later graduated to a plastic pool! Lol!

Later years Marie stayed at home, caring for the home. Ready to run at a minute's notice to head for the lake or on a fishing trip, when Curtis came home from work. Marie & Curtis hung out at their favorite watering hole, "The Mug" in Bellmead. They had many lifelong friends from there and they would meet and plan for the next lake event, whether is was on the Houseboat for the weekend at Lake Waco or a camping spot or picnic area there. Many a fish fry's we done at the lake, as the lake level would lower from all the fish they caught and ate! We had a blast catching fish!

After Curtis died, Donald and Richard tried to get Marie to live with them and when that didn't work then closer to them, but Marie stood strong and steadfast and refused to leave her home.

Donald & Katherine Gorman aided her in her later years due to us living 2500 miles away in Washington State. Marie started having health issues and Donald & Katherine put her in the Hospital. Marie called us while in St. Catherine's Center in Waco, Texas, (I think it was 2005?) mad at the world plus Donald & Katherine for taking her away from her home. She was there for a little bit, due to health issues and falling. We weren't notified by Donald that she had returned to St Catherine's for a few weeks, till after she passed away. We do know she suffered much with pain and swelling from the (CHF) Congestive Heart Failure, especially in her lower limbs. They would leak water from her pores. We had come to Waco 2005?, for a visit before her health issues led to a rapid decline. We spent hours on end with her over a few days, reminiscing about old times and catching up on the new.

We tried to get her out of the house and finally did and went on a tour around Waco, Texas and old stomping grounds. She would point out enthusiastically with a tiny squeal, that's where we did this or that and remember "Baby Boy" when we here etc. We enjoyed ourselves and had a Shorty's Cheeseburger and returned to Marie's, for a few hours.

We went to the store and bought her a few things she said, she kept adding to the grocery list but they never came home in the grocery bag! She had a craving for oysters and pimento Cheese especially! We brought her another Cheeseburger from Shorty's and she devoured it in joy!

We got her out of the house, and strolled around the yard in the wheel chair, as she soaked up the sun as if she hadn't seen it in many years! Of course we returned to the circle of chairs for our chitchats after touring the buildings and yard, per Marie's request. She was fired up about a compost leaf pile, she never wanted nor authorized to be there. Some of her favorite bushes were gone or pruned the wrong way, not her way etc.! Rich and I got so tickled we started laughing, because it was good to see her come to life again!

Then there was the old big building, she insisted in going in to see and inspect it. She was so disgusted it had been let go to the point of ruin as she blamed Donald. We said nooooo, what do you want to know and we will go look and I was appointed! I entered a room I have never been in before and fell through the floor when I put one foot in! I quickly retreated and said no wayyyyyy! Cobwebs that were thicker than cloth material ~~ spooky! Curtis worked in these buildings for years doing his projects and such and they were old back then! hahaha! We were all laughing about it after we explained, many years had passed. Off we went back to the circle of chairs for a root beer and more chitchat.

I will never forget the look and outburst from Marie on that surprise visit from Washington at her front gate! She always padlocked it. She didn't recognize us at first, and when Richard spoke to her, she came alive and tears and squeals started flowing and masked the words being spoken. Her knees went weak and she dipped slightly. She grabbed Richard (her Baby Boy) and wouldn't let go, saying "My Baby Boy is home over and over"!

Sadly, unbeknownst to us, our 2009 trip was the last time we would ever see her again. We will see her soon when Jesus returns for HIS people. We love and miss you Mom.
