DOUGLAS W. THORP
Caro

Died Monday, January 9, 1995 at Saginaw General Hospital. He was 50. He was born October 19, 1944 in Cass City. With the exception of his college years he was a lifelong resident of rural Caro, most of that time in Wells Township. He married the former Eileen Eberle on August 19, 1966 at Rochester.

He was the head of the Jr. High Mathematics Department at Caro Community Schools, where he taught for 28 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the K of C Council #3224, the Caro Education Association, a former president of the Caro Jaycees, Michigan Jaycee vice president, a Jaycee International Senator and a former head of the United Way campaign. He was an avid fisherman as well as a wonderful father and husband.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Stacey Thorp of Bay City; one son, Wayne Thorp of Chicago; his mother, Ella Thorp of Caro; three brothers, LaVern Paul Thorp and his wife Barbara of Davison, Richard L. Thorp and his wife, Nila of Caro, Gerald F. Thorp and his wife Sharon of Caro; several nieces and nephews; five aunts; one uncle; numerous cousins; his mother-in-law, Mildred Eberle of Mayville; special friends, Loren and Nancy Wier of Caro and David Preston of Caro. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Thorp and his father-in-law, Roscoe Eberle.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Collon Funeral Home after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and at the church on Friday from 12 noon until time of service at 2:00. There will be a K of C rosary at 7:30 on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the catholic masses or a memorial at the Caro Middle School. Arrangements were made by the Collon Funeral Home in Caro.
