Maureen Heus, born on December 9, 1958, passed away Tuesday, October 27 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. She passed on to the home God has prepared for her in heaven, the best home.

She attended the Evangelical Free Church and loved all the children at Awana Cubbbies. Being Teacher Maureen on Wednesday nights was one of her happiest times of her life. Maureen enjoyed nature. Loved to go hiking and being blessed by all God's creations, birds, mountains, flowers and animals. She especially loved her twin sister and her three kitties, Claire, Sadie and Johnny. Most of all she loved the Lord and was a great witness to many people.

Maureen graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1977.

She then joined the Air Force for 11 years and was stationed in many different places around the world. Eventually she was stationed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO which became her home for 25 years.

In October, 2005 she decided to move back to her hometown Sheboygan Falls. In February 2007 she was diagnosed with liver cancer. Since then we have had many very sad times and some very wonderful times together. One of her best times was our trip to Cancun where we celebrated our 50th birthday. We had the time of our life! We loved to make each other laugh. Our sense of humor was one of a kind. God blessed me with a very special twin.

Maureen is survived by her best friend and twin sister, Marilyn (John) Kregel of Sheboygan Falls; her mother, Beulah Heus of Sheboygan Falls; brother, Steve Heus of Sheboygan Falls; sister, Linda Heus of Sheboygan and a sister, Roxane (Tom) Mosher of Muskegon, MI; three nephews, Greg and Jeff Heus of Barneveld, WI and Lawrence (LJ) Hildebrand of Sheboygan Falls; and aunt and uncle, Sharon (Leon) Grohskopf. Her very dear friend and hiking partner, Joseph Cummings of Colorado. And many other very special friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Norbert Heus, her brother, Mike Heus, and sister-in-law, Marilyn (Meby) Heus.

A Celebration of Life for Maureen Heus was held at the Evangelical Free Church in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on November 5, 2009 at 6:00 p.m., with Pastor Gary Hylander officiating.

A note from Lori, a friend of the family - "It was a beautiful service. Maureen had been in the Air Force for 11 years as a nurse. When the military rights took place and the soldier knelt before Marilyn, Maureen's twin, to give her the flag, I lost it. Taps always does that to me too. Maureen had written notes in her Bible to be read at her funeral, messages to her family and friends. What a brave person to know she was going to die, and then do it with such grace, and such a strong belief that she knew exactly where she was going. The whole service gave me a lot to think about, so besides being very sad, it was very uplifting. It was a fitting tribute for such a special lady."

"My Twin"

I am so blessed to have had you for 50 years as my twin sister and my best friend. We have been through so much together in our life. Many, many wonderful memories. God brought you back home at the perfect time. I was able to spend quality days with you.

Our walks at Harrington Beach is one of my favorite memories. Walking your niece and nephew, Herman and Lucy, was one of your favorite things to do to help me. You always made sure they got their exercise. Most of all God brought you home so I could take care of you during this difficult journey.

You appreciated everything I did and you were so brave. We loved each other more and more each day. No more suffering, no more pain, and no more fear. I love you my twin and will miss you dearly. In God's timing I will be with you again and it will be a wonderful celebration. Until then I know you are singing and dancing in the best home. Goodbye for now my twin.

Love, Marilyn
