Born in Beaver Falls, PA, he moved to Los Angeles in the early 1960s after serving in the Pacific during WWII and attending Penn State on the GI Bill. He became one of the first condo developers in Southern California. His 1964 Rossmoor Townhouses project became a model for multifamily housing.
