Youngest son of George I. Wolfe and his first wife, Elizabeth Tresenriter, Harvey was enumerated on the 1850 census at Georgetown in the household of his father and stepmother, Mehitable.

His father died in 1872, stating in his will that his children Samuel C. Wolfe, Hamilton Wolfe, Simeon K. Wolfe, Harvey S. Wolfe, and Mary Ann Wolfe (wife of Anthony Mottwiler), were to share equally in the proceeds his estate. His will was proved 01 Jun 1872 before the Court of Common Pleas at New Albany.

Dr. Wolfe was a graduate of Transylvania University's School of Medicine at Lexington, KY, and the Hospital Medical College of Louisville, KY. He practiced for many years at New Albany, Indiana.
