Betty was born in Alhambra, California, July 22, 1925, to W. Henry and Pearl (Self) Nelson. She attended Buffalo High School, graduating as valedictorian in 1942. She later attended Drury College and Washington University.
On December 28, 1944, she married George R. Shannon. During his days in the U.S. Air Force they lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, Rapid City, South Dakota and Harlingen, Texas.
Upon his discharge from the service they returned to Joplin, Missouri, later being transferred to Neosho, Missouri, Springfield, Missouri and St. Louis, Missouri.
Mrs. Shannon was employed by GMAC fro 28 years, retiring at the same time her husband retired from Southwestern Bell in 1983. Mrs. Shannon was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, and was a patron of various charitable institutions and educational facilities.
At her request she was an anatomical donor of her body to St. Louis University Medical School to further medical science. There will be no visitation or funeral service.
