Granich, Rev. Msgr. Bernard E. Fortified with the Sacraments of the Church on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the age of 81. Born on May 21, 1928, to the late Joseph and Mary (Klaric) Granich, and brother of the late Bessie Cernich, Tony, George, Joe, Lillian Hoagland, Bernice Bley and Bob. He is survived by his sister, Rosemary Engelhardt and sisterin-law's Virginia, Mary Ann and Barbara Granich. Beloved brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, fellow priest and dear friend to many. He graduated from Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Maplewood, The Cathedral Latin School, St. Louis Preparatory Seminary, Kenrick Seminary and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he earned the degree of Licentiate in Sacred Theology. He was ordained to the Priesthood on May 30, 1953, by Archbishop Joseph E. Ritter. He was appointed Archdiocesan Archivist in 1961 and Assistant Chancellor in 1966. He was named a Prelate of Honor of His Holiness, Pope Paul VI in 1971, with the title of Rev. Monsignor, and he was named Vice Chancellor in 1972. Some of his many parochial assignments throughout his 56+ years as a priest include: Holy Angels in Kinloch, Immacolata in Richmond Heights, St. Ambrose on The Hill, the St. Louis Cathedral, Chaplain of the Academy of Sacred Heart (City House), Pastor of Annunciation in Webster Groves, Pastor of St. Agatha in St. Louis, Pastor of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist in St. Louis and Chaplain of The St. Agnes Home in Kirkwood. He retired to the Regina Cleri Priest Residence in 2006. Services: Funeral from KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL, 10151 Gravois, Saturday, January 23, 10:30 a.m. to St. Michael the Archangel in Shrewsbury for 11 a.m. Funeral Mass celebrated by Archbishop Robert J. Carlson. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Masses preferred or Memorials to Priest Mutual Benefit Society, 20 Archbishop May Dr., 63119. Visitation Friday 3-8 p.m.
