Obituary published in The Baptist and Reflector, Nashville, Davidson CO, TN, on May 20, 1897, p. 17, as follows:
PARKS.-- Again we sorrowfully chronicle the death of one of the fathers in Israel. Elder, J. C. Parks, who went to the mansion prepared for him at his Father's right hand on March 11, 1897. Brother Parks professed faith and united with Prospect, Carroll County, Tenn., at the age of 14. He has lived a consistent Christian ever since; has been a faithful and bold minister and defender of the gospel for about forty-five or fifty years. He has had several successful debates with the Cambellites, and had an abiding interest in the Southwestern District Association, of which he was one in its organization, and was moderator of the same for a number of years in succession. In his death we lose a faithful member, a wise counselor and a tower of strength. The prayer that he has so often prayed at the Southwestern District Association that he might "die at home and in his right mind" was fully answered. He was permitted to live to the ripe old age of 72 years, and when the messenger came his voice was hushed and his spirit made its exit without a struggle. He leaves a host of friends and a great denomination to mourn his loss. To his wife and bereaved family, we would say, weep not for him; our loss is his gain; follow his godly example and be ready to meet him when the summons comes, where no more burning tears of sorrow are shed and the death knell tolls no more. Sent by George Hollowell.
