The story of Sgt. Arthur P. Lyon has got a bit garbled over time; the Sgt. was never a POW. The Sgt was killed - shot in the head - by Confederate General Hylan B. Lyon (same last name, hence part of the confusion) whom the Sgt. had taken prisoner.

There is some indiction that the General had already surrendered to Sgt. Lyon, and then shot him - not the most honorable thing to do.
