MRS. JESSIE G. a'BECKETT
The death of Mrs. Jessie C. a'Beckett at her residence, 'Whitwell' on Tuesday last, marked the passing of one of Wellington's oldest and most popular residents.
Born at 'Gamboola,' Molong, 83 years ago, deceased came to Wellington when she married the late William Channing a'Beckett in the year 1884. As the wife of a prominent district grazier, she played a big part in the social and community life of the district, and throughout her lifetime was a most popular and well loved district identity. Her interests were wide and varied. She was an active participant in the work of the Red Cross and C.W.A. for many years, and she continued to serve devotedly even when age was taking its toll of her energies. Her death, though the conclusion to rich and full life, will be widely mourned in the pioneer circles. She is survived by four children, Arthur, Hastie, John and Emmie, all residents of the Wellington district.
A service was held in the Church of England yesterday afternoon, Rev. H. Graham officiating. A very large and representative cortege then proceeded to the Church of England portion of the Wellington cemetery for interment. Messrs. Murray Bros. were in charge of the funeral arrangements.
