George Albert Canning-Chief Motor Machinist's Mate, US Navy was born June 1, 1902 and died overseas April 22, 1944 at age 41. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery May 3, 1948. Before joining the Navy, Chief Canning also worked in the Carboloy division of General Electric Co. in Cleveland and was also a construction engineer for the Floyd Stein Co. of Euclid, Ohio.

His wife, Kathleen, was born 1905 in West VA and was living in Detroit when George was buried; a son, George, born 1928 in Calif. was with the United States Army in Korea; a daughter, Shirley Ann, and a brother, Henry lived in Cleveland, Ohio.
