Raised in the Anacostia area in Washington, D.C., he graduated from the Randolph Macon Academy in Front Royal, VA. After his discharge from the Army, he attended American University.
He was a custom home builder with his father in Prince George's County for many years. In 1977, he built 301 Center Liquors in Bandywine, MD, which he managed with his oldest son.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine Mabel Jourdant Prohaska; six children; a sister; 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, other relatives.
Interment followed funeral services conducted at the St. Stephen Baptist Church (formerly, Broadview Baptist Church) Temple Hills, MD, Friday, October 17, 2008.
