James A Balch died in Chester, VT on May 21, 1968 at his home from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Th ruling of suicide was made by the Regional Medical Examiner. He was born on June 6, 1921 in Springfield, VT; the son of Ervin and Blanche (Johnson) Balch.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having served in the U S Navy.
He was a member of the Chester Rod and Gun Club, Gassets Grange, the Chester Fire Department, and present finance warden of the Chester Congregational Church.
He had been employed by the Central Vermont Public Service Corp. for the past twenty-eight years as a lineman.
He is survived by his parents; his wife, the former Elizabeth Ayres, whom he married on September 26, 1940 in chester; two sons MU3 Robert Balch, U S Navy stationed in Japan, Frank Balch of Chester; two brothers Harold Balch of Manchester, CT and Donald Balch of Sudbury, MA; three sisters Alice Quimby of Waterford, NY, Lora Underwood of Claremont, NH, and Dorothy Richfield of Spokane, WA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in North Springfield, VT.
