In loving memory of Lilah, who remained a beautiful, vibrant woman her entire 102 years.

Lilah met the love of her life, Gib, at a wedding. Lilah loved to dance, and their courtship involved a lot of dancing.

My fondest childhood memories, well into my adult years, were seeing this special couple at church every Sunday.

(This was read to Lilah at her 100th birthday party.)

A mere 42 years after the Civil War,
Was born a dear little girl to love and adore.
Lilah was born in nineteen-o-seven,
To her family, she was a gift from Heaven.
Big brown eyes and a wee little face,
All little babies are filled with God's grace.
In 1908 when Lilah was one,
The Model T Ford came out, now that was some fun!
What a marvelous thing, don't hold back,
You could have any color, as long as it was black.
In 1912 when Lilah was five,
The Titanic, an unsinkable ship, didn't survive.
In 1917 when Lilah was 10,
World War I was raging way back then.
In the Roaring Twenties Lilah was a sweet little thing,
Prosperity and flappers, she made the bells ring.
At 20 years old in 1927, everyone was frantic,
As Charles Lindburgh flew over the Atlantic.
At only 22, during the Crash of '29,
Hard times loomed ahead, but she got through it just fine.
At 26, she didn't worry about her next meal,
As FDR began the New Deal.
While attending a wedding one sunny morning,
She spied a young man without any warning.
So handsome was he, she wanted to give him a big kiss,
Love at first sight! Lilah and Gibby enjoyed marital bliss.
At 28 years old in 1935, Elvis Presley was born who would someday gain fame,
The King of Rock and Roll, music would never be the same.
At 32 years old in 1939 - the start of World War II,
Oh dear! Another war! It's nothing new.
Then the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941,
Lilah was 34, and more world strife had begun.
In 1945, World War II ends,
Lilah's only 38, and the world makes amends.
That same year M & Ms came with a new candy plan,
Melts in your mouth, and not in your hand!
In 1950 when Lilah was 43, ladies could wear any hairdo they choose,
But Mamie Eisenhower's bangs made the front page news.
In 1952, when Lilah was 45,
The African Queen sails with Bogie and his prize.
When Lilah was 50 in 1957,
Laura Ingalls Wilder passed at 90, and went straight to Heaven.
In 1960, when Lilah was 53,
Jackie Kennedy's pillbox hat made history.
At 62 in 1969, the first man walks on the moon,
It seems like only yesterday when Lucky Lindy flew.
And the years go by so very fast,
Before we know it, a hundred years have passed.
So on this special occasion, we all want to say,
Happy Birthday, Lilah, Happy Happy Birth-DAY!
