Caleb is probably the son of Benjamin Hendryx and Elizabeth Boyd. They both died in Ohio 1827c.

Birth: Monday, 2 Mar 1818 in Ohio, USA

Death: Sunday, 21 Feb 1875 in Otter Creek Twp., Linn Co., IA.


Family tradition says that his middle name was Seth, because one of the grandson was named after him. I speculate it was originally his grandmothers' maiden name: Swarthout.


He lived in Clarksfield, Huron County, Ohio early 1830's. Source: Working for Mr. Gibson at the Carding Mill, Pioneer History of Clarksfield, F. E. Weeks, 1908, pg. 105.

2) James Hendryx b: 9 Apr 1848.

d.18 May 1910, Linn Co., IA. Bachelor, medical: slow minded, a residence of State Hospital after the death of his father. After he was released and lived with his mother, then his brother: William. After William passed away in 1938, he lived with several family members.


3) William H. Hendryx b: 2 Feb 1850

d. 22 Oct 1938, IA

m. Mary Amanda Arnett (sister of Elizabeth Arnett, listed above).

4) Sarah "Elizabeth" Hendryx b: 20 Jul 1853 d. 7 May 1910 (1) m. Samuel Mills Geiger (2)m. George E Houver.

Divorced Jan 23, 1903, San Francisco, CA.

1920 census says he was divorced.

Caleb's cause of death was typhoid fever and pneumonia , age 57. Acting physician Dr. Yost.

Also buried on this lot is Ambrose Rucker 1787-1871. We're not sure of the relationship.

Ohio was unable to provide any documents to connect Caleb to his parents or siblings... but location, and the Census lists him as a male child in the household of Benjamin Hendryx, 1820 Census. Then living with his brother, William Hendryx, 1830 and 1840 Census.
