Entered service, March 29, 1918, from Lore City, Guernsey Co., Ohio. He was assigned to Company A, 330 Infantry Regiment, 83rd Division then transferred to Company C, 324th Machine Gun Battalion, 83rd Division. The 324th MG Battalion shipped out for France, June 26, 1918. Transferred, August 1, 1918, in France to Company C, 106th Machine Gen Battalion, 27th Division.

He saw combat in both Belgium & France, slighty wounded, September 30, 1918, Battle of the Hindenburg Line ( vicinity of Bony France ). He was killed in action, October 18, 1918, at the Battle of Jonc de Mer Ridge ( vicinity of Arbre Guernon ), France.
