Lieutenant Colonel William Beadon, 51st Sikhs (Frontier Force), Indian Army. He was the son of Major General Edward Musgrave Beadon (d. 1906) and Harriette Richards Beadon. Husband of Joanna Elizabeth Beadon (daughter of Lieutenant General J A Ballard), of 74, Lexham Gardens, London. Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned into the Kings Own Scottish Borderers as a 2nd Lieutenant on 14 Sep 1887. Promoted to Lieutenant on 4 Nov 1889. Transferred to the Indian Army on 4 Dec 1891. Promoted to Captain on 14 Sep 1898, to Major on 14 Sep 1905 and to Lieutenant Colonel on 14 Sep 1913. He served with the Chin-Lushai Expedition in 1889-90 (Medal with Clasp); and with the Isazai Expedition in 1892. Served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1893 with the 4th Sikh Infantry, including the capture of the Malakand Pass, the passage of the Swat River, and the engagement at Panjkora (Medal with Clasp). In WW1 he deployed with the Indian Expeditionary Force to Mesopotamia. In Dec 1915, a British division had retreated into the town of Kut-el-Amara, where they were besieged by Turkish forces. Several attempts were made to relieve the beleaguered force but without success. Lt Col Beadon was killed in the second attempt to relieve Kut, during the Battle of Wadi, on 13 Jan 1916 and is buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq. He was mentioned in despatches.
He is also commemorated on a memorial in St Augustine's Church, Church Hill, West Monkton, Taunton Deane,
