Robert served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-25D-1 "Tinkie" (#41-30315), 500th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Laurens County, Georgia prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 2, 1940, prior to the war, at Fort Screven, Georgia. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in construction and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-25 didn't return from a bombing mission over Hollandia, New Guinea during the war. He and was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
