Mary was the daughter of Archibald Blair (1753-7 Oct 1824) and Mary Whiting (b. 1760) of Henrico County. She married John Minor Botts on 13 or 14 May 1822. They had at least seven children, including four sons and three daughters. She died age 40 of "Child Bed," per Cemetery records. Her grave in her husband's plot is unmarked.

John was serving in Congress at the time of her death. He went on to be a leading Southern Unionist before and during the Civil War. He helped lead resistance to Confederate authority in Richmond until internally exiled to his Culpeper County estate.
