James Joseph Donald Dennis "Don", of Salt Lake City, went peacefully home to God's greater glory Thursday, after a short illness at a local hospital. Don was born on the family farm, to Jesse Ray Dennis and Bessie Marie née Wheeler. He was the second of five children. Don enlisted in the U S Navy in 1930 and served until 1957 when he retired. He was joined in marriage to Betty Davis née Thompson on February 3, 1936, in Yuma, Arizona. Together their union blessed them with four children. During his service in the Navy Don served in the Aviation department in San Diego, on the USS New York; at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas, and on Whidbey Island Washington. He served at the Fleet All Weather Training Unit for the Pacific Fleet in San Diego and with the VF-53 (53rd Fighter Squadron) in San Francisco. He retired with the rank of Chief Aviation Technician. After his Navy retirement Don went to work for the Federal Aviation Agency. This job took him all over the nation and around the world. In that capacity, Don worked in Nevada, South Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma Costa Rica, Venezuela, South Africa, Middle East and even Vietnam. On September 3, 1960 Don was joined in marriage to his beloved Carrol née McGranahan in California. They have been devoted to each other for the past 44 years. Don and Carrol moved to Salt Lake City in 1970 where Don became active in real estate. Don was an active member of First Baptist Church where he served on many committees, drove the church bus for many years, was the Pastor's Assistant in the late 70's and served on the First Baptist Church Foundation Board.
