Obituary

The community was shocked on Friday last when the news of the death of George E. Johnson spread. Mr. Johnson was one of those men, who so far as human eyes could judge, was least likely to die, but we are not always correct in our estimation. He was a man of sterling qualities, one we could depend upon in the time of need. His illness was of short duration and all that medical skill could do was of no avail.

The deceased was a loving husband, a kind father and obliging neighbor. One had some idea of the esteem he was held in, when the funeral procession wended its way to the Arcadia cemetery on Saturday afternoon, about fifty cars following the remains to the last resting place.

Rev. D.M. Beggs preached the funeral sermon at the home of the deceased. The text chosen was Numbers 23:50, “The Bright Side of Death”.

Mrs. Knapp had charge of the song service and each selection was rendered with deep feeling.

The heartfelt sympathy of the community goes out to Mrs. Johnson and family in this their sad hour of loss.

Mr. Johnson was born in Denmark March 27, 1873, coming to this country in 1881 and settled at St. Paul, Nebr. He was united in marriage to Lydia Fradenburg in 1897 and to this union were born six children three daughters and three sons. He came to this neighborhood in 1898. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife , three daughters, Ruby, Myrtle, Emma, three sons, James, Charles and Ray, also his mother and three sisters and three brothers.
