Notes from Eric Shawger:

John married Sarah Clayton 2 Oct 1930. He published an excellent book on New Jersey and New York families, Allison, Davenport, Shawger (Shauger), Wandel (Wandle) in 1954.

The Union Cemetery memorial in Marcella, NJ, to these family members of the US armed forces is quite extraordinary, perhaps even more so despite no actual remains buried there.

John created the cenotaph family memorial at Union Cemetery in collaboration with his first cousin, M. Elizabeth Scarlett Drake. View Her memorial here.

John served in the 7th Regiment of the New York National Guard and he also was a member of the following societies:

Member of Society of Colonial Wars in New Jersey
Member of New Jersey Society Sons of the American Revolution (2nd Great Grandson of both George
Shauger, and Cornelius Davenport. They were his ancestors who served in the war with England.)
Member of Society of the War of 1812 in New Jersey
