He was born in the family home in Hopkinton, Nov. 17, 1916, a son of Ernest and Jessie Sampson Danforth. He attended local schools and also St. Regis Falls High School. He was a member of the famous basketball "Wonder Team."
He saw service in World War II in the Pacific Theater, and afterwards attended Cortland a master's degree at Syracuse University. On Sept. 10, 1945, he married Miss Ruth Converse, daughter of Lloyd and Mildred (Meacham) Converse of Hopkinton. They came to St. Regis Falls in 1950 and he joined the staff of St. Regis Falls Central School and continued there to the present time.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Lawrence, a senior in the St. Regis Falls Central School; a brother, Lawrence, of Fort Edwards; a niece; three nephews; an uncle and two aunts.
He was a member of the New York State Umpires Association, Teachers Association, and F. & A.M., St. Regis Falls.
