World War 1, attended, OTC at Fort Myer, and commissioned 1st Lieutenant, Field Artillery, November of 1917. Reported to the 80th Division, assigned to Headquarters, 313th Field Artillery Regiment.
He shipped out to France with the 313th Field Artillery, in June of 1918. He served in France as the Battalion ( 2nd Battalion ) liaison officer and regimental information officer and commander of the 2nd Battalion Trains, He also served on detached service with the 1st and 2nd Army Corps. He was wounded in action, September 26, 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, by artillery fire. He was evacuated to the hospital in France then to the States and discharged May 19, 1919.
