FLORENCE O. AMOS

Florence Eleanor O'Neal Amos, was called home on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010.
She was born Sept. 16, 1932 in Middletown to Forrest and Eleanor O'Neal.
She graduated from Middletown Township High School and Cheyney State Teachers College, Cheyney, Pa. She received her Master's Degree from Kean College, NJ.
She married Malcolm D. Amos and had two children, Malcolm Jr. and Michelle Elizabeth.
A devoted educator, she taught in the Philadelphia and the Camden School Districts. Florence also taught in the Red Bank School District and during that tenure, she was honored as Teacher of the Year. She retired from teaching in 1998.
Florence was a member of various civic organizations, including the Fair Haven Democratic Club, NEA, N.J.E.A., Greater Red Bank Chapter of the NAACP, Fair Haven Recreation Commission and Fair Haven Senior Citizens Group.
As a member of the Aslan Youth Ministries, Florence raised funds for school supplies and clothes, and traveled to deliver them to the children of Haiti.
Florence was a longtime member of Fisk Chapel A.M.E. Church, Fair Haven.
Florence is predeceased by her parents, brothers, Melvin, Enoch and Meadow O'Neal; and sisters, Viola O. Williams, Willie O. Ruffins, Margret O. Brown, and Scarlett (Jackie) Jones.
She is survived by her son, Malcolm and his wife Peggy of Clarksville, Tenn.; her daughter, Michelle Amos Peete and her husband Terence of Washington, D.C.; her sister, Sonia Reevey and her husband Henry Sr. of Fair Haven; her brothers, Rodney O'Neal and his wife Josephine of Tinton Falls, William O'Neal and his wife Gloria, Adrian O'Neal and his wife Ellen; her sister, Rudell O'Neal and her partner Jimette Anderson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of dear, dear friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, with a pre-service viewing at 9:30 a.m. at Fisk Chapel A.M.E. Church, 38 Fisk St., Fair Haven. Interment will be at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
