Billy W. Hudkins


MARION - Billy W. Hudkins, age 76, of 1582 Bellefontaine Ave., died at 11:35 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2003, at Marion General Hospital.


He was born on April 3, 1927, to the late Vernon "Ben" and Vircha (Parsons) Hudkins. On Dec. 29, 1990, in Marion, he married Anna Virginia (Starcher) Hudkins, who survives in Marion.


Billy retired from the International Union in Pennsylvanis after 35 years as an operating engineer. He served in World War II, receiving the Victory Medal. He belonged to the American Legion, the Church of Christ and Christian Union. He was a resident of Marion for 13 years, living in Mechanicsburg, Pa., before that.


Also surviving him are two daughters, Deborah (David) Hahn of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Mellie (Bob) Mack of Marion; two grandchildren, Eric and Kristen Hahn of Brooklyn Park, Minn,; a brother, Jack Hudkins of Marion; a sister, Irene Jones of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.


He is preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.


Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2003, at the Church of Christ and Christian Union, with the Rev. David L. Glauner officiating. Burial will take place at Agosta Cemetery, and military rites will be observed by the Marion County Veterans' Council and Chaplin Fred Eyster.


Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Boyd Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ and Christian Union.

BILLY WAYNE HUDKINS, WW2, US Army, PFC, Truck Driver (345) Serial No. 35985802, 25 Apr 1945 - 20 June 1947, Inducted at Fort Hayes, Columbus, OH, service with the 110th ORD MM CO (Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company), Nagoya, Japan from 18 Oct 1945 - 12 Dec 1945, discharged at Fort Eustis, VA 20 June 1947. Awards: Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. Information taken from Billy's pay records available at NPRC (22 Feb 2023) and records received from the Ohio Department of Veteran's Services (19 Sept 2011).


The Marion Star, Marion, OH, 12 Sept 1945, PG 4, states that Billy was a paratrooper. I have not found any other record to substantiate this claim. His pays records certainly do not imply this.


Bill was a heavy construction equipment operator for most of his life.
