Hubert Lee Perry, 82, of Caldwell, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell with Rev. Todd Jordan officiating. Interment will be in Caldwell Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Perry had been disabled since 1947, as a result of an accident. He was an avid HAM Radio operator and an originator of 7290 Traffic Net, an organization of radio operators who relay messages in emergency situations. He had been recognized on numerous occasions for his service and dedication to the organization. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII, and a member of American Legion Post No. 451, of Caldwell. Several years ago, he wrote and published a book detailing the Perry family genealogy from 1704 to 1993. He was a Methodist. Survivors include his wife, Laura Malkey Perry of Caldwell; son, Johnie Perry of Caldwell; brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Cindy Perry of Caldwell; sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris and Floyd Carpenter of Fairfield, Calif., and Helen McFarland of Caldwell; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
