Prentiss (U.S. Army Ret); mother of Col. Augustin M. Prentiss Jr. and Mrs. Anne Prentiss Cruse. She is survived by five grandchildren. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.
Her and Brig. Gen Augustin Mitchell Prentiss' daughter, Anne Randolph, was married to Captain James Hamilton Cruse, son of Colonel Fred Taylor Cruse and Marjorie Hinds.
Colonel Fred Taylor Cruse was the son of Brigadier General Thomas Cruse and Marjorie was the daughter of Major General Ernest J. Hinds for whom the ship USS Ernest J. Hinds was named.
Brig. General Thomas Cruse' great grandmother was Hannah Ann Boone Barnhill, a descendant of the George Boone III and Mary Milton Mogdrige line, and a 1st cousin to Daniel Boone.
When General Prentiss was transferred from the Pine Bluff Arsenal to Washington, D.C. his secretary, Margaret Beall, transferred with him. Margaret Beall Mitchell later married Attorney General John N. Mitchell and became known as "Mouth of the South" during Watergate.
