US Congressman. During the Civil War he enlisted in the Union Army, and was mustered in as a Private in Company B, 71st Ohio Volunteer Infantry on March 15, 1865. Promoted to Corporal in December 1864, he served through the end of the conflict, and in post-War occupation duty, and was honorably mustered out on November 20, 1865 at San Antonio, Texas. He was elected as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 4th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1885 to 1887.
