Joseph A. Galestro of Sarasota died March 13, 2010.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and a Florida resident since 1978. Beloved husband and devoted father, Joseph died at home quietly in his sleep after battling cancer.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served his country faithfully in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1946.

He was a proud lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and had a special place in his heart for his fellow Knights and especially for the Women's Auxiliary of Council 3358. A husband, father, grandfather and friend, the world was a better place while he was here.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Savina; children Jo Ann and Paul; a son-in-law, Lenny Rich; a daughter-in-law, April Galestro; grandchildren James and Daniel Rich of Garland, Texas, and Angela Galestro of Sarasota; and many dear friends. He will be missed by all.

Mass services will be at 9 a.m. Friday, March 19, at the Church of The Incarnation. The burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the Sarasota National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Joseph to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, attn: Fund Development.
