William L. "Bill" Chaffee, 86, of Rock Falls, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at CGH Medical Center.
Bill was born April 12, 1924, in Milledgeville, the son of Christian and Cecil (Milroy) Chaffee. He married Lola E. Mariani on April 12, 1945, in Sterling. He drove a school bus for Rock Falls Schools, and he also drove a truck over the road. Most recently, he was employed as a dispatcher for General Cartage, Rock Falls.
He was a member of the Sterling Moose, where he held several offices, including the office of Pilgrim. After his retirement, he and Lola enjoyed traveling and spending the winter in Mexico.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Chaffee of Sterling; one daughter, Julie (Barry) Cox of Sterling; two sons, Rick (Sue) Chaffee of Dixon and Chris (Laura) Chaffee of Hampton; and nine grandchildren, Zachery, Alison, Shawn, Corey, Amanda, and Ashley Chaffee, Tiffanie Beck, Brooke Dir, and Kyle Cox.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Todd Cox; and one brother, Max Chaffee.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. There will be no funeral. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling.
