ESCONDIDO -- Roger W. Johnston, 82, passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008. Roger was born Jan. 21, 1926 in Utica, N.Y. He worked for Explorer and Unicel Corp. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps., retiring in 1975 as a MGySgt. Roger loved camping, the desert, and water skiing on the river with his family. He also enjoyed 4 wheeling and making everyone around him smile. Roger was a one of a kind, kind of guy. He was a devoted and loving husband to his loving wife of over 60 years, Melva Johnston. He is also survived by his children, Norma Hooper (Jim), Johnny Johnston (Debbie), Denny Johnston; grandchildren, Sandra Rocker (Steve), Michelle Pickron (Andy), Jenny Johnston (Richard), Ryan Johnson, Jeannette Johnston, Taylor Johnston, and eight great-grandchildren. He lived the majority of his life in Escondido. He then moved to Oregon and finally planted his toes in Tucson, Ariz. Roger will forever be in our hearts. He was a fighter to the end. "Once a Marine, Always a Marine" HOORAH! "Thank you, Honey, Dad, Grandpa,and Great Grandpa, for all the memories." A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday Aug. 9 at a private residence, 12105 E. Via Loma Vista, Yuma, Ariz, 85367.
