CRASH FATAL TO ONE,

THREE OTHERS INJURED IN TWO-CAR ACCIDENT

Providence Elmer Tyler, 73, who went along for the ride, died in Memorial hospital about 4:15 p.m. yesterday after being mortally injured in a tow-car crash at frederick and Chestnut streets less than an hour before.

Three others were injured in the crash.

A retired carpenter and great-grandfather to 12, Mr. Tyler was Owosso's second traffic fatility this year. The other death also occured on the city limits. Richard W. Decker, 51, of 707 Lincoln avenue, was killed on South street March 20 when a car and train collided.
Injured yesterday were:
Mrs. Arlene Edna Dibean, 35 of 1434 Pearce street, who was reported in good condition at Memorial Hospital this morning with broken ribs and a broken thumb.
Cloyse Frances Dibean, 43, of the same address, who was treated for a small head cut and releaased.
Mrs. Viola King, 44, of Helena and Frederick streets, Owosso township, who was treated for a head cut and released.

Mr. Tyler, of 425 Beck Street , was riding in the front seat if Dibean's car with Dibean, the driver, and Mrs. Dibean, Mrs King was in the back seat.
Dibean said he was in second gear as he approached Chestnut street from the west at 15 to 20 miles an hour. He slowed for the corner, he said, but did not see the other driver approaching from the south on Chestnut street until the collision.
The other car was driven by Mrs. Dorothy L. Chapman, 55 of 1502 S. Shiawassee street, Route 1 Owosso. Mrs. Chapman was not hurt in the collision.
The fronts of both cars collided at the open intersection, throwing Tyler and Mrs. Dibean from their car. There were no eye witnesses.
high weeds on the southwest corner of the intersection partially blocked the vision of both drivers.
Dibean told how he and the others had met Mr. Tyler downtown and had taken him home to deliver groceries. Then Mr. Tyler, who often accompanies Dibean "just for the ride" went to the home of Mrs. King, Dibean's sister, with the others. They were leaving that home after a five minute visit to go to the laundry when the crash occured.

Funeral services for Mr. Tyler will be held at the Jennings-Lyons Chapel Monday at 1:30 p.m.
the Rev. H.J. Delong will officiate with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The body rests at the chapel.

Mr. Tyler was born in Indiana September 7, 1882, the son of Enoch R. and Mary Tyler. He was married to miss Myrtle Husted in Ithica Feb. 13, 1905. The family has lived in Caledonia township for 15 years.
He had been a general contractor and carpenter until his retirement a few years ago.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Richard and August of Owosso, Virgil of Lennon and Frederick of Clarkston; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Hettinger of Perry, Mrs. Una DeLong of Owosso, and Mrs. June Robinson of Pontiac; three brothers, James, John and Clyde of St. Louis.
Also surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Totton, Mrs. Ruth Woodcock, and Mrs. Marie Cooney of St. Louis, Mrs. Kate Schranfnagler of Plymouth, and Mrs. Alice Ney of Washington, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
