He was survived by two sons, Keith Hansen and wife Glenda of Granbury, Texas, and Harry Hansen and Kathy of Las Cruces; four grandchildren, Kevin and wife Ashley of Dallas, Texas, Kyle and wife Stephanie of Dallas, Texas; Megan Hansen Tamminga and husband Tim of Las Cruces, and Jack Hansen of Las Cruces; and great grandchildren Emma, Lily, and Caden of Dallas.
Bernard was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gladys, his son Kent and granddaughter Laurie.
Bernie was a soft spoken kind man who loved his family. He enjoyed painting, poetry, and especially cartoons. He was a master carpenter and could make anything of wood from homes to children's rocking horses. He graduated from El Paso High before moving to Los Angeles where he met and married Gladys in 1939. After serving as a sergeant in the Marines during World War II he moved his family to Las Cruces where he joined his father in the custom home building business. He was always ready to support his boys in whatever they chose to do from raising animals for 4-H and FFA, to rodeos, sports and soap box derbys. The last home Bernie built was on the edge of the Las Cruces Country Club which he joined after retirement. He and Gladys were active in the Country Club and enjoyed playing golf with friends. Bernie will be remembered by his family as a kind, gentle man with a wonderful story-telling voice and total devotion to family.
A graveside service was held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home.
