Raymond "Punk" L. Morrical, 87, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, at his residence comforted by family.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Kathy Olson officiating, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy. Visitation with the family will be 1 p.m. until service time Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Raymond was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Sioux City, to Raymond L. Sr. and Vivian (Randall) Morrical. He received his education at Woodrow Wilson, before entering the U.S. Navy on Oct. 10, 1942. He achieved the rank of boatswain's mate second class. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with five stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with one star, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal before receiving his honorable discharge on Oct. 30, 1945.

He married Pauline Adams on April 19, 1943, in Dakota City. He joined the Sioux City Police department, where he served his community for 21 years before retiring in 1969.

He enjoyed woodworking, had the patience of a saint and dearly loved his family. When asked what should be put in the paper upon his death, he simply responded, "Tell them he was a hell of a guy!"

He is survived by his son, Glenn R. Morrical of Sioux City and his children, Kim Welch, Linn Morrical and Mathew Morrical; a daughter, Ranette Morrical of Sioux City and her children, Penney Bressler and Robin Lemons; a brother, Lou Morrical of Arizona; sisters, Lonna Ericson, Maurieen Kowalawski and Norma Parker, all of Sioux City; and 12 great-grandchildren.
