Ray J. Hartman, Caro Jeweler, Dies Suddenly
Ray J. Hartman, Caro jeweler and watchmaker for the past 24 years, died unexpectedly at about 11:15 pm Wednesday at his home after a heart attack. He was 62.
He became ill shortly before going to bed and after spending a quiet evening listening to the radio.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am Saturday at Sacred Heart church with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rev. Fr. E.J. Betzing, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Mr. Hartman was born April 5, 1889, in Sebewaing and spent his early life there. He married Miss Nettie Cook September 8, 1912, and she survives.
Mr. Hartman came to Caro in 1927 with his family from Akron, where they lived from 1915 until 1927. He learned to be a watchmaker from his father, the late Henry Hartman, and followed his trade and operated a jewelry store at his home at 604 W. Lincoln St. He was a member of Sacred Heart church.
He is survived by one son, Dr. Wendell M. Hartman of Caro, and two grandchildren.
