Grandma's first name did not have an 'I' in it. I don't know how that ended up on her headstone! Her birth year is also wrong on her tombstone.
She lived between Eufala and Checotah Oklahoma on 160 acres of land. Her farm is now under water at Fountainhead State Park. She died of a heart attack while on an over-night fishing trip with her son Hubert, just a few miles from where she was born. She loved taking these fishing trips with her sons.
She was a widow at 39 and never remarried. She raised her 4 children alone. Her 3 sons all graduated from college. She was a strong, independent woman who was also loving and kind.
She was a wonderful grandmother who made all of us grandchildren feel so special. She has been one of the main role models for me regarding my own grandchildren. She crosses my mind almost daily!
